Job Summary:

Reporting to the VP, Interior Design, the Intermediate Interior Designer is responsible for prepare full sets of working and construction drawings.  This position requires an individual with strong technical skills.

Main Job Tasks and Responsibilities:

• Prepare working drawings and assist with specifications for interior construction, space planning, materials, finishes, furniture, furnishings, fixtures, equipment and millwork; create sample boards; knowledgeable in the areas of building construction, building materials, specifications, codes, technical drawing and business practices
• Working closely with a Senior Interior Designer and/or Senior Architect to formulate preliminary space plans and produce two- and three-dimensional design concepts that are functional, within budget and aesthetically pleasing
• Understand the structural requirements of the plans, life safety issues, building codes and other technical aspects
• Communicate with clients, consultants and contractors as directed by the Senior Designer
• Understand and have working knowledge of materials and products that will be used to create and furnish the space and how texture, colour, lighting and other factors combine and interact to make a space
• Collaborate with other consultants who offer professional services in the technical areas of mechanical, electrical and structural design as well as any specialty consultants as directed by Senior Designer
• Administer contract documents, bids and negotiations as the client’s consultant as directed by Senior Designer
• Prepare permit and tender documents
• Carry out construction administration under supervision of Senior Designer
• Understanding of project fee and client budget
• Mentor and train junior designers

Other Responsibilities:

• Provide back-up assistance to other members of the Interior Design group as well as the Architecture group
• Other duties as assigned

Position Requirements:

• At least 5 years’ experience as an Interior Designer
• Very strong technical skills: AutoCAD, Sketchup or 3D Max, Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite
• Understand the design process and able to comprehend the client’s needs and goals
• Train and supervise junior designers; participate as a team player
• Well-developed time management and organizational skills required to undertake multiple projects or facets of various projects
• Comfortable meeting and dealing with architects, contractors, other consultants, other interior designers, material suppliers and specifiers
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Understand Interior Design libraries
• Good working knowledge of Ontario Building Code
• Degree or Diploma in Interior Design
• Intern member of ARIDO an asset
• Obtained or considering LEED CI certification or AP accreditation

Reports to: Director, Corporate Interior Design and/or Principal, B+H CHIL Design

Job Summary:

Reporting to the Director, Interior Design and/or Principal, Interior Design the Senior Interior Designer is responsible for overseeing the design process.  The Senior Designer also has supervisory responsibilities with respect to directing, training and mentoring intermediate and junior designers.

Main Job Tasks and Responsibilities:

• With input from the Director and/or Principal, oversee the interior design process and deliverables, establish project direction and work within project budgets and schedules
• Meet with clients to analyze their goals, needs and resources
• Under minimal supervision manage multiple projects and a team of intermediate and junior designers; delegate and assign tasks appropriately
• Understand the requirements of the plans, life safety issues, building codes and other technical aspects; knowledgeable in the areas of design, drawing and details, finishes and building materials, specifications, codes, technical drawing, contract administration and business practices
• Prepare and administer construction documents consisting of plans, elevations, details and specifications, to illustrate non-structural and/or non-seismic partition layouts; power and communications locations reflected ceiling and lighting plans; materials, products and finishes; and furniture selection, specifications and layouts
• Administer contract documents, bids and negotiations as the client’s consultant; coordinate and collaborate with other design professionals who may be retained to provide consulting services, including but not limited to architects, structural, mechanical and electrical engineers and various specialty consultants
• Assist with permit tender applications as required
• Complete construction administration from tender through project close out
• Work to a project fee and client budget
• Foster and cultivate good client relationships
• Mentorand train intermediate and junior designers

Other Responsibilities:

Position Requirements:

• 8-10 years’ experience as an Interior Designer, specifically in Corporate Commercial sector
• Understand the design process and fully comprehend the client’s needs and goals
• Excellent leadership skills to train and supervise intermediate and junior designers
• Well-developed time management and project management skills required to undertake multiple projects
• Professional, client service oriented and positive representative of the firm

Reports to: Project Manager/Project Architect and/or Project Director

Job Summary:

We are seeking talented design-oriented Junior/Intermediate Architects who will contribute to and participated in the Design and Development process from Interiors to large-scale complex projects.

Main Job Tasks and Responsibilities:  

• Supports the project designer in the development of the architectural design, including reviewing the design requirements
• Attends team meetings as necessary to coordinate drawings, and provide information as required.
• Utilizes CADD to draft design drawings and schedules following office standards including 3D models. Makes alterations to design drawings as directed by more senior staff.
• Works with current design techniques, building systems, and keeps current with design trends, code changes, and developments to sustain and improve technical and design skills.

The B+H planning, urban design and landscape architecture team is looking for a senior team member to be responsible for team operations who will play a key role in project management and staff administration.  This position will also involve direct participation in management of individual projects and development of client relationships for the team.

Operational responsibilities

• Daily operations and administration of the planning, urban design and landscape architecture team
• Support projects and project managers in terms of operations, financial performance and staffing resources.
• Prepare monthly fee and staffing forecasts
