Bunting Coady Architects, in joint venture with Broadway Malyan, provided a sustainable design review based on LEED for this 6 million square foot development in Abu Dhabi. Our sustainable development framework used our Integrated Design Process (IDP). A climatic analysis of Abu Dhabi was conducted prior to the commencement of the first IDP step. The concept design changes triggered by the IDP review of the masterplan included a revised orientation to normalize all buildings along the east/west axis, a curvature of facades in response to solar shading characteristics of glazing, a tightening up of the building massing to reduce envelope exposure to heat gain and a rationalization of shading to the south facades and possibly east and west as well.
